The One About Click Bait
TL;DR
I try very hard to always make my main points of my content very clear, but here is my attempt to turn all my 2023 videos on the Bookkeeping Side Hustle YouTube Channel into click bait.

You know who also feels slimy from click bait and really just wants to be the best Hands-On QBO instructor in the world? Margie Remmers-Davis, the brains behind the Fast & Easy QBO suite of trainings and tutorials. She had to hire a marketing firm to support her because she wants to focus on teaching, not just getting clicks.
You want proof. Check out an example exercise about cleaning up Inventory Adjustments to Opening Balance Equity.* That ain’t fluffy teaching, folks. And that isn’t even showing the video instruction that accompanies that lesson.

💪 Replay: From Chaos to Clarity: How to make sense of QBO Cleanups. Yes, watch the interview so you see the course creators on my turf, not their own sales turf. BUT, if you have limited time, the best way to see if they are the real deal is to look at this example exercise* that they demo’ed in the inteview. Apparently there are 42 of these modules and each module comes with a video walk-through, too.
💪 The Ambitious Bookkeeper has The Bookkeeping Biz Workshops* from Jan 22-26 for only $27! Her programs are for folks with bookkeeping/accounting knowledge who need that push to start their own business!
💪 Do you wrestle with whether or not to pass along credit card processing fees to your clients? I do! Ignition hosted a debate called “The Great Debate: Surcharging vs All Inclusive Pricing”. I think I’m joining team surcharging! (I’m proud that I got Ignition to share the link to the replay without requiring an email! Whooo yah!)
💪 I got wind that Cathy Iconis of QBOChat fame has made her paid QBO courses free on YouTube. Here is the link to all her playlists. She is in a season of life where she can’t keep the videos updated when Intuit is constantly changing their interface inside QBO, so she just decided to offer them up for free. Your QBO dashboard will look different, but the concepts are still the same. If money is tight to invest in a recently released QBO course, then this channel can help you.
My Family Circus
New section of this newsletter for 2024. Completely non-bookkeeping related. It will be a short blurb about topics related to how we manage our family/marriage/house/LIFE! My self-imposed goal is to keep it under 200 words.
🎪 Do you want my #1 technology recommendation for children if you want to minimize their screen time (we’re still a no-device-for-kids family and my oldest is 12). A $25 cd boombox from Walmart so they can listen to audio books. I believe we are on our third boombox because my kids use it so much. “But Kate, where in the world do you get CDs?” Your local library, people! My kids have amazing vocabularies, happily stay in bed at bed time, have a great ability to focus, and love stories because of our boombox. Buy your family a boombox today and head to your library. It will give your children unprecedented advantage in life.

💼 It is tax season - that means folks are looking for tax help! Check out the Job Guide to see the new (mostly tax) jobs posted!
Don’t forget the standing opps on my Find A Freelance Job article. 1099 and W-2 opps.
Kate Builds In Public
🎢 Inspired by one of my very first mentors, Amanda Aguillard, I came up with a list of 24 in 2024. These are not hardcore official goals, per se, but a thoughtful list to remind me of the things that will be valuable to me and my family this year. You can see my entire list that I have printed out and taped inside my kitchen cabinet at this link.
But I do have one big hairy audacious goal that I want to tell you about. I want to have 52 in-person lunches with people in my new town.
The categories are neighbors, church, and business. The good news is that I've already scheduled the first 5! The bad news is that I'm pretty sure I will quite literally have to knock on doors to find 52 red-blooded humans to have lunch with me and that is frightening and exhausting, even for an extrovert like me.
The sub goal is to study the driving directions before hand, and get there without using my phone map. It will be very tough to do, but I’m giving it a shot. The goal is written down (write it down) and also shared with you (accountability), so hopefully I’ll accomplish this. And how much better off will my family be if I even halfway hit this goal!
Care to share your goals or action list for 2024? If it isn't in writing, it doesn't exist!

Kate- this opening on your newsletter gave me all the feels. I can relate to so much of what you shared here. I love this community, but it sure can bring back many of those 13-year old feelings from time to time. Thanks for being vulnerable and please know that you are not alone!

I am down right rabid about transparency and full disclosure. If a link has a * beside it, it means it is either an affiliate link where I might receive compensation if you make a purchase, at no additional charge to you. Or it could be a tracking link that another business provided me to see how many readers click on that link.
