The One About Love
TL;DR
Do you love bookkeeping? Really love it? Rachel Dauchy does.
This week I interviewed her about how she recently obtained the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers Credential. She gave all the details about the study process, the cost, the benefits, the continuing education requirements, etc. But one of the things that stood out most to me was just how much she loves this industry and the work that she gets to do serving her clients and running her business.
Sure, bookkeeping is a great side hustle. It is a great full-time hustle. It is a great industry to be employed in.
But listening to Rachel, it seems like it is her passion.
When it is your passion, you want to keep learning. Certifications aren't a chore. You consider it a valuable investment that will give you an ROI more than a pain-in-the-butt box to check.
Now, I'm not saying that everyone who loves the bookkeeping side of the accounting career field needs to obtain this certification. Or any competing certification (she explains how she settled on this certification instead of others that are out there).
But listening to her talk about it, she certainly gives a compelling argument.
And I think that assessing yourself and thinking about how much you really love bookkeeping is a good mental exercise.
Would you persevere through the tough NACPB payroll test material? Do you get excited that you would have required CPE to maintain your cert and stay sharp?
One of my missions is to make sure that this industry is full of qualified professionals. So I am so excited that Rachel shared her review of the NACPB certification.
You know, a really strong combo for accelerating your career in this industry would be to pair that Certified Public Bookkeeper badge with an expertise in a cloud based General Ledger like Xero. Sign up today for the upcoming Intro to Xero session. More and more bookkeepers are falling in love with Xero, choosing it as their GL of choice, and never looking back.

🎢 On my Freshbooks tutorial channel, I have a few software comparison videos. QBO vs FB. Xero vs FB. Wave vs FB. But just this week a viewer asked if I had a Zoho vs FB comparison video.
Well, I don't, but it got me curious. I don't know enough about Zoho's functionality to feel like I can make an ethical comparison at this point. But, I wonder if any of you readers are a Zoho expert and I could collaborate on a video about the differences. It could drive Zoho users to you and Freshbooks users to me.
By the way, Zoho does have a certification program for accountants (Not for me, but maybe for you???). And it does have affiliate link which would be great for me to be able to use in a FreshBooks vs Zoho comparison video to still get some $$ for those viewers who end up choosing Zoho instead of FreshBooks.
🎢 3 more FreshBooks training clients ($250 each) and 1 more FreshBooks office hours member ($59/mo). All inbound leads from my tiny FreshBooks YouTube Channel (which I haven’t even uploaded a new video to since May). Doing the live teaching work that I love.
🎢 Most of the boxes in our new house have been unpacked. I’m starting to feel a leeeeetle bit of a routine and return to normalcy after a nomadic 3 months. Now I get to embark on the challenge of making new friends in a new town at 42 years old. Trusting the Lord on this!
From The Vault
⚡ The interview about the NACBP curriculum and certification reminded me of the interview I did about the Western Governors University accounting degree programs. What a deal that school is for motiviated students.
Letters To The Editor
✉️ Hey Kate! I just wanted to say that I watched your recent video on the Mastermind group and found it super inspiring. I'm working on setting up a group, as it's something I've been kind of looking for/missing in my work life, and this was a really nice example to get the ball rolling. I reached out to two women and we're meeting next week. Thanks for everything that you do!

Way to go, Natasha! This is the kind of action I love to see!

I am down right rabid about transparency and full disclosure. If a link has a * beside it, it means it is either an affiliate link where I might receive compensation if you make a purchase, at no additional charge to you. Or it could be a tracking link that another business provided me to see how many readers click on that link.
